If you’re in the hood and want to take on some hills, we’ve got a great ride planned. Shiraishi Toge. You can checkout the route here – We’ll ride up the Arakawa as usual and then follow this map: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/330487
I’ll be heading out from Shinjuku as usual and then we have a meetup point close to the Arakawa River. The weather is looking to be gorgeous so lets enjoy it! This will probably be the last chance before Kusatsu to get in a major tear-down day so expect some aggressive climbing by committed individuals. As always, though, no one is left behind unless they choose to bail.
If you’re riding fixed then I recommend a 44/15 44/21 flip flop. The climbing portion exceeds 18% in many places. This is how we roll!

This weekend a few of us ventured into the hills for a weekly sojourn. We love the mountains and alot of how we feel is reflected in the bikes we ride and where we do it. Hence, the ‘road’ in ‘roadfixie’ is for real. A typical ride: 25km to the ‘river’ , another 35km up the river to the hills, 50km climbing various passes, 35km back down the river, 25km back home. This weekend we added a short cyclocross section as the road was still snow covered at the top.

All of those signs indicate how treacherous it is , blah blah… Actually the descent down from the pass was more difficult, in my opinion. The melt-off had loosened the hillside and there were numerous rock-slides in progress. Not too fun on a hard, technical fixedgear descent. But this is how we like it!
